Summary: The presence of asbestos has hitherto not played a significant role in tunnel construction work in Germany. Because technical progress now allows tunnels to be built more and more in areas with unfavourable topographical and geological conditions, difficulties in the execution of the work are generally increasing as well. Asbestos is any of the following asbestiform silicate minerals chrysotile, actinolite, amosite, anthophyllite, crocidolite and tremolite.
